The title – that’s when I started writing down these ideas.

Spring officially started here, in the southern hemisphere 🙂

And, on my way to discover the end of the world, I made a stop in Puerto Madryn.

Why did I do this? Because, while doing my research for the trip, I found out that Peninsula Valdes (which is near Madryn) is a good place to see whales, sea elephants and other “exotic” animals … for a European guy.

Whoa, wait, what, whales? To be exact – right wing whales. Between June and October they retreat in the bay of Peninsula Valdes to give birth and to teach their babies what life is all about without having to worry about orcas or other marine predators that might hunt the newborns.

The same thing is applicable for sea elephants, sea lions and penguins.

My 2 cents on this experience? We hunted and killed to the brink of extinction these majestic creatures and seeing their calmness and joyfulness I was reconfirmed that if us, humans, were to disappear tomorrow the world would be a better place.

So, after spending a few days in Puerto Madryn, I found myself again on the road, going south.

And it was my first encounter with the advice every backpacker gives: don’t get too attached to places because eventually you will have to continue your journey.

Coincidence or not, exactly on the day of this departure one backpacker that I’m following, Nomadic Matt, posted a picture from 17 years ago. It was a pic with a bunch of people with whom he was traveling at the moment and he was asking himself what might have happened with these people: are they ok, are they still traveling, has time changed them?

Am I also going to ask myself over the years about Nancy, Franco and all the people that I’m about to meet? Luckily technology nowadays helps us keep in touch easier: we send an email, we see a post on Social Media.

And in times like these I am reminded of one of the true utilities of the internet:

To keep us united when we are afar, not to estrange us when we are close to each other.

I am posting this article on my first day in Ushuaia, so excuse me, but I have to go and explore 🙂
